Newspaper cartoons for instance, take the Mickey out of politicians all the time, and yet - have you ever heard of a cartoonist being sued for making fun of a public figure...? Do cartoonists the world over have a secret deal with authorities that lets them get away with that, you ask? No. It simply is pretty hard to show resentment of being made fun of in a cartoon without being immediately branded as ill-humoured and that would be rather bad advertising for oneself, wouldn't it! |
